S2 E15 How to End a Creative Project? It’s Personal

Sometimes you have to get quiet to recognise the signs. When should a particular creative chapter end? If it’s your creation only you will know…

Howdy Listener,

To paraphrase Frank Sinatra, “And so the time has come…🎶 …I’ll do it my way”

Yes, this is an I Dibs The Front episode, you know, where I talk to you from my car as I’m driving to or from town? (100% legally I might add - start recording a voice memo before you even turn the car on and don’t touch your phone until the engine is shut off at your destination - edit accordingly)

But also, this week's episode is a little different… it’s my final podcast episode. And that’s 99.9999% a 100% true statement (never say never).

In this episode I’m reflecting on a significant birthday, my sister Pippa's life, and a couple of books that have caused me some deep thinking. Before you ask, yes, my brain is sore.

Questions that I’ve maybe, kinda’ sort of figured out:

  • What are the lessons I've learned from all of my conversations about creativity?

  • How do I want to fill up my big, beautiful life?

  • Now that I’m ready to free up some time, what might my next “hobby” be?

This “ending” is about recognising when one creative season has done its job and having the courage to let another one begin.

Thank you for coming along for the ride, beep beep.

🎙️Key Takeaways

🎨 If You Have a Creative Itch, Scratch It

Even though it was scary, starting this podcast taught me that my urge to create is worth listening to. I coulda’, shoulda’ started sooner. Turns out my creative ideas wait, and wait, and wait, until I take the plunge and act on them.

🚀 You’ll Never Ever Feel Completely Ready

Confidence won’t magically appear so you can begin. Say what? Turns out it grows because you begin. Each podcast episode made me a little more comfortable with my voice and a little more trusting that being authentically myself was enough.

⏳ Time Is Your #1 Creative Resource

How do you want to spend your “one big beautiful life”? Turning the age my sister was when she died jolted me into thinking differently about time. I had to decide that ending a project isn’t failure but a chance to create space for new experiences and new creative adventures.

🤎 Creative Projects Change You - That’s The Point

This podcast was never just about exploring creativity, it was a creative project to push and stretch myself. It was a creative practice that taught me to listen more deeply, think more broadly about creativity, embrace process over perfection, and appreciate every person who chose to listen along the way (that’s you).

So, thanks for riding shotgun with me one last time and here’s to whatever creative adventure comes next.
