Welcome to The Vibrancy Society!
Hi I’m Bec
This publication is where I share my thoughts on living a healthy and more vibrant life. I write about movement, health, and creativity; my lens previously was Pilates-centic but now I’m opening the aperture.
I use these seven Pillars of Health as my jumping off points:
Movement
Creativity
Community & Relationships
Mindfulness
Sleep
Environment
Nutrition
I firmly believe that movement heals and that we are our own body’s best experts - yay us. While my view is that a Pilates practice can offer us life lessons and that Pilates is for every body, it’s not for everybody. Not your jam? Cool with me. Over the years I’ve also found other ideas/modalities/practices that have helped me move towards what I call a high vibe life. That’s what I’m interested in writing about although I can’t promise I won’t write about something/anything just because…
My goal here on Substack is to create a community of people who feel empowered to move more freely and fully (not only physically but also mentally and emotionally). Of course we all get to define for ourselves what constitutes our “best life” but I have a few ideas on how to feel better inside and out.
So…
Here’s to living with more Vibrance, Vitality, Vim, and Verve and having a bit of fun along the way!
Why I Moved to Substack
A few years back I set myself the task of writing a weekly long form newsletter to my email list. I found I really enjoyed it, giving me an excuse to “deep dive” and nerd out on topics of interest to me and by extension my audience. After about a year I realised that what I wrote, which usually took the better part of a day, was extremely fleeting. Even if someone opened my email, would they read it or just hit the delete button? In order for my ideas not to disappear into a cyber void I set myself the task of turning my musings into blog posts.
“pilates + life + health” was the name I came up with and I’ve been a #pilatesblogger ever since.
Back then pretty much everything I wrote was filtered through, or circled back to the world of Pilates or movement. Overall I wrote about whatever I wanted, even if the Pilates threads were tenuous and it’s why I had the all encompassing word “life” in the blog title.
I still love to use my skills as a Pilates teacher to guide people on their movement journeys but a funny thing happened once I started writing. I found that the pebble that is Pilates expanded into ever widening circles on health, wellness, and a life well lived, ergo my interest in a wider range of topics.
In the spirit of this ever evolving version of myself, my outlook feels better suited to be less Pilates-centric and more all encompassing in the ways we can live a happier, healthier life. Voila’, The Vibrancy Society was born.
Prior to my first “official” Substack post from the end of Oct 2024 are the blogs from pilates + life + health. Make sure to have a dive through the archive - there’s some juicy stuff in there if I do say so myself.
My Podcast
Threads & Bones, exploring creativity, is my podcast. It’s the place I get to scratch my curiosity itch around all things creativity. The episodes are mixtures of interviews, book reviews, looking at the research surrounding creativity, and me just flapping my gums. It’s one of those things I talked about doing for years and am finally, finally doing. It feels scarily exciting and I’d love it if you have a listen.
My Day Job
I’ve run Dragonfly Pilates & Movement, my home based Pilates studio, since 2008. Right now I teach from a converted machinery shed on my property in SE Queensland, Australia, as well as virtually all over the world. I teach classes, privates, have on demand offerings, and also host/co-host retreats both here in Australia and overseas.
There’s a link to my website in the navigation bar so that you can easily have a gander over there.

Who Am I?
Hmmm, where to begin.
I guess you could call me a multi-passionate entrepreneur-ish something or other but yep, my day job is teaching people how to move more efficiently. I’m a Pilates teacher and have been for close to 25 years. Prior to that I was a professional dancer and teacher which means I’ve been looking at bodies and how they move for a long, long, time.
Over the past five years (thank you Covid) I’ve figured out that I needed to add to my movement based philosophy to truly live a well-rounded, healthy life. Through my curiosity and many hours of self study I’ve found things that work for me to feel pretty damn vibrant here at 61 years of age. And, it’s not like it’s rocket science, but I do like to look at the research to back up and support what I do.
That’s the professional “Me”. Here’s a bit about the personal “Me”:
I’ve had many names in my life: Rebecca, Rabs, Becca Joe, Schmacaroni, and even Rebecca Mary Sue Pat. Do you know how Aussies love to shorten every single word? After living in Australia for a fair few years I've finally shortened my name to just Bec.
I moved to AU in 2008 (the hubby got a job) and at present live on a beautiful property in Queensland, with dairy cows on one side and beef cattle on the other. I take many, many, photos of the sunrise from my verandah, and am learning a thing or two about country living.
I love my hubby, kiddo, family, and pets, popcorn, jigsaw puzzles, and buying jewellery to remember my travels.
Some weird facts: I graduated from high school twice (a week apart in two different states), have three passports, and the one time I actually counted, had 49 pairs of workout tights.
I’m a true Gemini. I toggle between being a very out there and performative extrovert or the best, most awkward wallflower ever.
Why Subscribe?
Right now nothing is behind a paywall. Everyone can see everything: the publication archives with the Exercise Deep Dive video tutorials and anything else I’ve written.
However, I’d love it if you do Subscribe (for free) to stay up-to-date. Every new post is sent directly to your email inbox and I usually write once a week.
