Are You Moving?
Not as in unpacking boxes and setting up in a new house but as in getting your body to experience more movement in your life, every day of your life.
Remember when I was trying to figure out how to address you in these weekly emails? How about…
Hello Fearless Reader!
Nah?
What about just…
Hi
Yep, let’s try that…
Hi, and happy beginning of March,
As you know I look at the world of movement through a set of Pilates tinted glasses. I’m not assuming that you do as well, in fact I bet that you’re not as Pilates-obsessed as me. (but if you are - hello, let’s talk!)
Instead of telling you to get down on your mat and whip out a set of The Hundred, what I really want to encourage you to do this month (and every month tbh) is to move in whatever way gives you pleasure.
Of course you should move because you SHOULD move for your health and longevity, but whatever you do, make it enjoyable so that you look forward to it and miss it when you know, you miss it.
If you don’t know what your movement jam is yet, no worries, that only means it’s time to start exploring.
Are you a pickle baller, a hiker, a gardener, a skier, a samba-er, an aqua aerobics fan, a chair yoga enthusiast, or someone who just loves walking the dog?
It does not matter - find your jam and al la Nike, just do it.

Call it movement, call it exercise, but let me know in the comments what it is you love to do
Why MOVE?

Pilates
If you think that Pilates is one of your movement jams (or might be) that’s awesome.
Whether you’ve been bending, arching, rolling, and twisting on a mat for years or are just in the exploratory phase of what this whole movement method is all about, I have two things for you.
1. A Reminder that if it’s March you know that I’m deep into March MATness
March MATness is the Pilates world’s month long celebration of Joseph Pilates and his original 34 Mat exercises.
I’m sharing one exercise a day for the whole month via email. There’s a short video demonstration, bit of a blurb, plus a link to a deeper look at that day’s exercise.
If that’s intriguing to you then join the party - it’s not too late but you need to opt in on your settings page. Here’s how to right from the substack help centre.
even if you don’t choose to opt in you can still read the March MATness posts from The Vibrancy Society homepage or from the tab in the menu bar at the top of the page
2. This Groovy Post I wrote a couple of years ago:
IMHO the sentiments I share are always relevant :-)
Debunking the Top 10 Pilates Myths
I thought I’d have a bit of fun with this blog post (hence the Jackalope photo) and talk about some fallacies regarding what Pilates is all about.
That’s it for me this week but don’t forget to let me know: What’s your movement JAM??

P.S. fyi, I’m deep in editing mode for tomorrow’s podcast ep which is my second book review📚. Can’t wait for that? - here’s a link to the first one on Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic🪄
I love to mow my lawn!
It just so happens I tried something new this morning - swimming in a lane in a pool. As in laps. It has been years! I got the pool etiquette all wrong and possibly upset the regulars but hey I gave it a go and it feels good. I think my ocean swims are far more freeing and social :)
